Should I Market Plumbers?
Plumbing Contractors are an excellent source of restoration work because they encounter water damage nearly every single day.
They are one of three people a customer is likely to call when they are ankle deep in water. Homeowners call a plumber, “Come turn off the water now.” They call an insurance agent, “What am I to do now?” They call the insurance company directly, “I have a problem. Please help me.”
If a homeowner calls their agent, they most likely will be referred to the claims center, and calling the carrier direct will result in an immediate assignment to a program contractor by the carrier’s TPA.
Before you get too excited about the referral possibilities with plumbers keep this in mind – you must pay plumbers for their leads and every other restoration company in your area is target marketing plumbers too. The result – you pay top dollar ($250 – $750) per lead to get that call from the plumber. Some restoration owners will even pay a percentage of the job total.
Do I think target marketing plumbers is worth the effort – ABSOLUTELY! I even have a dozen distinct strategies my client contractors use to help them be as successful as possible getting referrals from this target group. Plumbers are a great source for restoration leads – you will have to work hard to get plumbers to call you, and you will pay top dollar for each lead, but it’s worth the effort.
The relationship is strictly a transactional one – you pay and they refer. It’s just that simple. If you are successful at developing referral relationships with plumbers you will maintain them through faithfulness, consistency, and immediate payment. Most contractors get slack and are inconsistent which is why many plumbers making referrals for pay are open to exploring new and more faithful relationships than their current ones.
I encourage you to try and establish this relationship with several plumbers in your immediate orbit of work.
If you try and just can’t crack that nut are there other working strategies just as effective – ABSOLUTELY!
First, become a full-service contractor by adding build back services. Capture the construction and double your business!
Second, become a program contractor and get direct repair assignments from the TPAs that handle the claims for nearly every insurance company in the country.
WOW – they both sound like great ideas. But how do I start a construction division, and how do I get activated by TPAs?
