Company Culture and Employee Retention: How Do You Keep People?

Hiring the right people is hard enough, but how do you retain those star employees that you’ve worked so hard to find? Your business needs a positive culture that makes your staff want to stick around.

Many business owners invest a lot in hiring the right people. Then they invest even more time and money into training them. But the problem is, that’s where they stop. They don’t take the time to think about employee retention.

Losing an employee to another job opportunity is very costly for your business. Not only do you have to shuffle staffing around to fill the immediate gaps in your workload, but you have to start the hiring process all over again.

And with the current job market, the majority of contractors find it difficult to find skilled workers right now.

So, what kind of company culture should you be striving for? Start by focusing on these 3 areas. And if you need more help in building the right culture for your team, contact us for a free 30-minute consultation.

Trust

Don’t micromanage your employees. Show them that you have confidence in their ability to get the job done. Stand up for them with difficult customers. Build a culture around mutual respect and you’ll gain loyalty from your staff.

Growth

Help your staff continue to learn. Offer training regularly. Give them opportunities to grow within their position by giving them new responsibilities. Get them invested in the growth of the business.

Appreciation

Recognize your employees when they succeed. Reward them for their hard work and let them know they’re appreciated. Allow them the time off that they need to reenergize and avoid burnout.
